Washington Dulles International Airport broke its record for passengers last year, while Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport saw its lowest passenger count since 2022.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which oversees both facilities, released the 2025 passenger numbers Tuesday.
Taken together, the two airports served a record 53.9 million passengers, with Dulles setting its mark with over 29 million passengers, 10.53 million of whom were international. The record represents a 6.4% increase in travelers at Dulles from 2024.
The airport has 46 airlines making over 340 flights to 164 destinations each day.
Reagan National, by comparison, had nearly 24.9 million passengers in 2025, a 5.3% year-over-year decrease from its all-time record set in 2024 when the airport had nearly 26.3 million travelers.
Those are the fewest passengers at Reagan National since 2022 when the airport served 24 million, according to ARLNow, a news site based in Ballston, Virginia.
Reagan National has more daily flights, at 400, but has only eight airlines traveling to 108 destinations.
Regional airport officials attributed the decline in passengers at Reagan National to knock-on effects from the Jan. 29, 2025, midair collision between an Army helicopter and an American Airlines flight headed to the airport that caused 67 deaths — plus lower demand for government travel and the 43-day government shutdown.
