Woman goes unresponsive on Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride, pronounced dead at hospital

A woman in her 60s died after suffering a medical emergency at the end of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, this week.

The victim, whom authorities have not named publicly, went unresponsive at around 6:30 p.m. Monday, Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Matt Sutter told USA Today.

Disneyland personnel provided immediate attention before handing her off to Anaheim Fire & Rescue paramedics, who took her to a hospital where staff pronounced her dead.

The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner’s Office is working to figure out why the woman died, Sgt. Sutter told The Orange County Register.

Disneyland’s website describes the decades-old ride as “gentle” and “slow-moving,” around 1 mph.

“I have to say that if you picked a ride at Disney, this or Small World would be the last type of ride you would expect to see something like this to happen. These are the rides for great-grandmothers,” Dennis Speigel, founder of International Theme Park Services, told the Los Angeles Times.

Sgt. Sutter told KTLA that “there is no indication of any operating issue with the attraction, which reopened soon after.”
