Trump to get health checkup Friday at Walter Reed Medical Center

President Trump will get a medical checkup Friday at Walter Reed Medical Center, and then possibly head to the Middle East, where peace talks are underway.

In a statement issued Wednesday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Mr. Trump is headed to Walter Reed for “a planned meeting and remarks with the troops.”

“While there, President Trump will stop by for his routine yearly checkup. He will then return to the White House. President Trump is considering going to the Middle East shortly thereafter,” she said.

Earlier Wednesday, Mr. Trump said he might make a trip to the Middle East as negotiations continue on his 20-point peace plan to end the Israel-Hamas conflict.

“I may go there sometime toward the end of the week. Maybe on Sunday, actually, and we’ll see,” Mr. Trump said at the White House.

U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are currently in Egypt trying to negotiate the peace deal to end the war that has raged in Gaza for over two years.

“We have a great team over there, great negotiators, and there are, unfortunately, great negotiators on the other side also. But it’s something I think that will happen. Got a good chance of happening,” Mr. Trump said.

The 79-year-old president’s checkup follows his annual physical at Walter Reed, which occurred in April. White House physician Cpt. Sean Barbabella declared the president “remains in excellent health.”

“President Trump exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State,” Dr. Barbabella concluded.

Dr. Barbabella cited Mr. Trump’s participation in meetings, public appearances and press availability, along with “frequent victories in golf events.”
