Trump says federal government will send aid to flood ravaged areas of Texas

President Trump described the deadly floods in Texas as “terrible” and “shocking” and said the government would be sending aid.

“They don’t know the answer yet as to how many people, but it looks like some young people have died,” Mr. Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Friday night as it flew toward New Jersey.

“We’ll take care of them. We’re working with the governor. It’s a terrible thing.”

First responders searched early Saturday for two dozen missing children from a girls’ camp and many others who also vanished after a wall of water rushed down a river in the Texas Hill Country during a storm that killed at least 24 people.

The death toll is expected to rise.

The fast-moving water that sped along the Guadalupe River rose 26 feet in just 45 minutes before dawn Friday, washing away homes and vehicles.

The total number of missing was not known, but one sheriff said 24 of them were girls attending Camp Mystic, a Christian summer camp along the river.
