President Trump on Wednesday ordered U.S. flags to be lowered to half-staff through Sunday evening to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Mr. Kirk, a close ally of the president, was shot to death at an event at a Utah university campus.
In a proclamation honoring Mr. Kirk, the president said the lowering of flags was “a mark of respect” for the memory of the Turning Point USA founder.
The move lowers the flags at all federal buildings, military bases, U.S. embassies abroad, naval vessels and other government property.
Flags would have already been flown at half-staff on Thursday to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Mr. Trump announced Mr. Kirk’s death earlier Wednesday, calling him “great and even legendary.”
Mr. Kirk, 31, was killed while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.
