A couple of days ago, I told you all about a terror attack on the lines heading into a Berlin power station by a shadowy Left-wing group called the Vulkangruppe. I only call them ‘shadowy’ because, in spite of being around for over a decade and accused of multiple significant terrorist actions against infrastructure, the network of so-called ‘Volcano groups’ remains pretty much a topic of disinterest for a German state surveillance that can tell you what you Xweeted six years ago if it insulted a fat Green Party politician.
There does seem to be some splintering of opinion on the wisdomof last weekend’s attack among the various groups in the loose cabal, though.
Quite possibly because the inept German government took more than five days to restore power, and their horrific, thoughtless stunt cost one aged lady her life, as she froze to death in her frigid Berlin apartment for lack of heat.

…Her death due to the blackout was confirmed by Berlin Police Vice President Marco Langner.
These pseudo-shadow warriors are now murderers, which kind of takes the shine off their crusade and has given some members pause in the rush to claim credit.
For days, a power outage paralyzed parts of Berlin – and within the far-left autonomous scene, there is a heated debate about the sense and nonsense of the terrorist attack that led to this situation. In Berlin, various Vulcan groups appear to be vying for the dominant interpretation of events. The suspected perpetrators of attacks in previous years consider the new generation of “Vulcans” illegitimate and claim authorship of the movement for themselves.
At the same time, there appear to be efforts to unite various groups with similar goals organizationally. Anarchists and left-wing extremists in other parts of Germany have long since joined forces to carry out coordinated acts of sabotage. They are in the process of building a nationwide terrorist network.
In a statement published on the far-left website de.indymedia.org, a rival group, the “Volcano Group of 2011,” distanced itself from the recent attack on Berlin’s power grid. “Our name is being placed in a context (…) that we do not bear.” The publicly discussed continuity of attacks since 2011 is just as nonexistent as any ideological homogeneity within the group.
Five days in freezing weather ( -5°C/23°F) with no power for tens of thousands of Berliners.
The fallout isn’t confined to just red noses, cold toes, and busted sewage lines. There has been an uptick in criminal activity as people had no alarms, or weren’t home at all because they checked into hotels for warmth, or kept their businesses closed.
Berlin has been living without electricity and heating for five days:

According to the Berlin police, there have been an increase in burglaries, with robbers trying to break into people’s homes or businesses, as well as robbing ATMs. The city’s energy system was attacked, presumably by a left-extremist group called Vulkangruppe.
They claim to be fighting against the rich and climate change by destroying infrastructure. The mayor of Berlin has just confirmed that everyone who was affected by the power outage and registered in a hotel where there was still electricity will get their money back.”
Cancer patients had been forced to sleep in the hallway of their treatment center as it was the warmest space available, knowing that the refugee center next door had been evacuated to warmer quarters.

And I wonder if they bothered to tell anyone about the hazard because, well, you know. Everyone does kind of ‘expect’ the electricity to stay ON, and, if it should happen to burp out, not to be out for almost a week in below-freezing temperatures.
Expectations are such an outmoded way of thinking, aren’t they?
This was a great little video detailing some of the chaos caused by the Vulkangruppe’s attack in his Berlin neighborhood. People were adapting as best they could under the circumstances, with no hope of help from the city or the government. Groceries were being hung out of a shelter window so that they wouldn’t go bad.

As he says, the attack was so successful, how many other cities are mapped out already for the same treatment?
The risible mayor of Berlin, a Christian Democrat (CDU) politician named Kai Wegner, who was already in a heap of trouble for taking nearly a day to address the issue publicly, is now in some serious hot water for showing an American Democratic Party level of concern for his citizens’ suffering.
He just kind of had his own French Laundry moment.
…Shortly after the attack by the extremist ‘Volcano Group,’ which claimed it was taking ‘action’ against the rich because of the damage they are doing to the environment and due to their alleged incitement of hatred against migrants, Wegner said “I was at home all day because I had to make phone calls. I locked myself in my office.”
Cue a massive wave of outrage after it emerged that the mayor actually nipped out for a round of tennis just a few hours after tens of thousands of residents were left without electricity amid freezing winter conditions—“becuase I just wanted to clear my head.”
Nius editor Julian Reichelt joked that he chose “tennis instead of terror, serve instead of attack.”
What is it with Democrats, be they American or German? It’s always all about them.
The chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, another CDU Democrat, was fretting himself silly about Ukraine’s power while saying nothing, nada, zip about his own people literally freezing in the dark after a terrorist attack in a German city.
Didn’t that mean old right-wing Alice Weidel rip his lederhosen.

One can’t make this up: While tens of thousands are freezing in Berlin, Merz warns of an energy crisis in Ukraine – and doesn’t say a word about the left-extremist attack on the capital’s energy supply.
This is the sclerotic state of Europe. Germany is just today’s illustration.
They are so afraid of the populists rising and so indulgent of the left-wing evil – remember, believing you did something terrible for a cause is a mitigating factor in your guilt – that they haven’t bothered to look at who the radical left even is.
This Vulkangruppe alone has ten serious infrastructure attacks to its credit since 2011, with even more fanatic younger radicals joining them now, and thanks to this mindset, they’re doing it all in relative anonymity. I was today years old when I first heard the label ‘anarcho-primitivists,’ too.
…Which specific acts can be attributed to the Vulkan groups, or to a particular group, remains unclear. Various lists of attacks are circulating in the media, some based on information from police authorities and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. For example, Michael Bröcker of Table Media published excerpts from an “internal analysis” for the police on X. This analysis lists ten “carried-out attacks” attributed to the Vulkan groups. Other acts, such as those from November 2013 and June 2018, which have been linked to this movement elsewhere, are missing from the list.
…Anarcho-primitivists fundamentally reject technology as an instrument of domination and want to return to pre-industrial times. According to Welt , they could be responsible for the attacks on Tesla and others from 2013 and 2018. The current letter claiming responsibility also exhibits stylistic features that place it among these terrorist acts and suggest ideologically trained authors.
Meanwhile, the North Rhine-Westphalia counterpart to the Berlin-based Vulkan groups, the “Angry Birds Commando,” has once again claimed responsibility for a series of crimes. On January 5, the group also published its “Committee Statement No. 7” on de.indymedia.org . Active since May 2023, the group has repeatedly claimed responsibility for arson attacks on Deutsche Bahn facilities. The North Rhine-Westphalia Office for the Protection of the Constitution describes the group as a technology-hostile, “left-wing extremist participatory campaign.”
These are lunatics loose on society, while the official focus is on a basically non-existent far-right bogeyman.
