A pair of serval-type cats were found in Baltimore, with one captured while the other returned to its owner’s property.
Officials have not specified whether the cats were wild servals or wild-domestic hybrid Savannah cats, but both types are illegal to own in Baltimore.
The two cats were spotted in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood on Friday, the Baltimore City Housing and Community Development told The Baltimore Sun.
“I’m sitting there having my coffee, and I see a truck pull up, and it’s like, well, that’s unusual. I get up and walk out on the back deck with snow, and I see the cat. It’s very unusual to see something that looks like that,” witness George Epple told Baltimore’s WBAL-TV.
The cat that was found by animal control personnel is believed to be a 3-year-old male, according to WBFF, another Baltimore station.
The cat in animal control’s custody will be sent to a zoo or shelter, while the second cat will stay with its owner as the Baltimore Office of Animal Control investigates the situation.
No injuries were reported to either cat, other animals or to people.
