Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas had some testy exchanges with former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson over how involved the U.S should be in Israel’s targeted attacks against Iran.
Their conversation got heated after Mr. Carlson, who opposes the Trump administration getting more entangled in the fight, pressed Mr. Cruz on Iran’s population and ethnic makeup.
“You don’t know the population of the country you seek to topple?” Mr. Carlson said, eventually informing the lawmaker that Iran’s population is 92 million. “How could you not know that?”
Mr. Cruz responded, “I don’t sit around memorizing population tables.”
“Well, it is kind of relevant when you are calling for the overthrow of the government,” Mr. Carlson said.
When Mr. Cruz stumbled over Iran’s ethnic makeup, Mr. Carlson said, “You don’t know anything about Iran.”
Mr. Cruz snapped back, “OK, I am not the Tucker Carlson expert on Iran.”
Mr. Cruz accused Mr. Carlson of not knowing anything about Iran and criticized him for downplaying reports that Iran wanted President Trump killed.
Mr. Carlson returned to Washington this week for a series of interviews in which he has been making the case against the U.S. getting more involved in the Israel-Iran conflict.
