Royal Caribbean cruise ship returns to Miami after passengers are injured in fight

The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Wonder of the Seas returned to port in Miami Monday just hours after leaving, when passengers on board were injured in a fight.

The ship departed Miami at around 4:30 p.m., according to Cruise Mapper, embarking on a four-day round trip to two locations in the Bahamas.

Instead, four Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived at Miami’s port hours later and brought two adults from the ship to a local hospital, the department said, according to USA Today. Fire officials did not specify the nature or severity of their injuries.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Miami’s WSVN-TV that “our team provided medical care to adult guests who were involved in an altercation onboard, and the guests are being treated for their injuries. We notified local authorities and are working closely with them. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no more information to share at this time.”

A witness on Wonder of the Seas, who did not provide their name, told Miami’s WPLG-TV that they saw people running toward a pool area of the ship, the children’s pool was roped off, and the captain attributed the ship’s return to someone needing hospitalization.

The boat then left Miami again and resumed its planned itinerary, according to Cruise Mapper.
