They’re gonna need a firehose to wash this off their Bass Weejuns and scruffy sneaks.
Two days ago, the kids at Al-Reuters had themselves one helluva GOTCHA! scoop.
And, man, if they didn’t run with it.

I saw it and, honestly, really didn’t give it a second thought, wondering why it was a big deal when I knew DOGE was a time-limited invention anyway.
‘So, what’s the BFD (as POTATUS would say),’ I thought, ‘since it was designed to sunset in any event?’
Well, someone foaming at the mouth at the news agency thought it was their bombshell, and shrieked ELEVENTY!!
Exclusive: DOGE ‘doesn’t exist’ with eight months left on its charter
IT DOESN’T EXIST
U.S. President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency has disbanded with eight months left to its mandate, ending an initiative launched with fanfare as a symbol of Trump’s pledge to slash the government’s size but which critics say delivered few measurable savings.
“That doesn’t exist,” Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor told Reuters earlier this month when asked about DOGE’s status.
It is no longer a “centralized entity,” Kupor added, in the first public comments from the Trump administration on the end of DOGE.
The agency, set up in January, made dramatic forays across Washington in the early months of Trump’s second term to rapidly shrink federal agencies, cut their budgets or redirect their work to Trump priorities. The OPM, the federal government’s human resources office, has since taken over many of DOGE’s functions, according to Kupor and documents reviewed by Reuters. At least two prominent DOGE employees are now involved with the National Design Studio, a new body created through an executive order signed by Trump in August. That body is headed by Joe Gebbia, co-founder of Airbnb, and Trump’s order directed him to beautify government websites.
Al-Reuters even sort of waxed poetic for them – ‘the fading away of DOGE…’ As if they were going to miss the scrappy little bunch of rocket scientists instead of pouring themselves a cold one and clinking glasses to gloat over the DOGE efforts’ premature demise.
Had a little video of people carrying boxes out of offices and hugging goodbye to go with it.
Trump, Reuters implied, wanted it dead and gone no matter what he was publicly saying, and that’s all it takes, AS YOU WELL KNOW…
[DUM DUM DUMDUM winkwinknudgenudge]
…Trump administration officials have not openly said that DOGE no longer exists, even after Musk’s public feud with Trump in May. Musk has since left Washington.
Trump and his team have nevertheless signaled its demise in public since this summer, even though the U.S. president signed an executive order earlier in his term decreeing that DOGE would last through July 2026
A funny thing happened on the way to DOGE’s funeral, though.
Mourners disguised as Community Notes came pouring out of the woodwork on the Reuters’ Xweet to say, ‘It’s not dead yet.’
…Perhaps there was some misinterpretation, because the report goes on to state that “OPM, the federal government’s human resources office, has since taken over many of DOGE’s functions.”
In fact, Reuters was hit with a Community Note on X, where the top note pointed out:
There is no evidence that DOGE has shutdown. There is no mention of it on the press secretary, Elon, Trump, the WH , DOGE or any other gov official account. Including DOGE official website. As of 9 hours ago DOGE was still posting about the work they are doing.
And then (EEK!) that Scott Kupor guy? The OPM Director they’d quoted in their story?
It turns out that Reuters had used a little creative literary license with the comments they’d quoted from Kupor about DOGE ‘disbanding’ and un-aliving, and it turns out Kupor. Was. NOT. Happy.
Good editing by @reuters – spliced my full comments across paragraphs 2/3 to create a grabbing headline 🙂 The truth is: DOGE may not have centralized leadership under @USDS. But, the principles of DOGE remain alive and well: de-regulation; eliminating fraud, waste and abuse;…

…eliminating fraud, waste and abuse; re-shaping the federal workforce; making efficiency a first-class citizen; etc. DOGE catalyzed these changes; the agencies along with @USOPM and @WHOMB will institutionalize them! Here’s the real story – Everyone Has a Plan Until You Step Into the Ring
Holy crap. Could it possibly get worse?
Oh, you betcha.
DOGE is over here channeling some Mark Twain… 😏 pic.twitter.com/eu23Ejh9l9

… We’ll be back in a few days with our regularly scheduled Friday update.
I hope there are enough Wet Wipes to go around to get every gooey bit of that rotten egg off their faces and that they really scrape their shoes well.
It’s got to stink in that office.
Bad enough it’s full of dirty Hamas-loving hippies on a normal day, but dang.
The stench is God awful when you get busted over something so pathetic.
