Latinos broadly support low taxes, energy production, and a stable border situation, a new poll from the advocacy group Libre found.
Libre, a Latino organization that advocates for free markets and immigration controls surveyed 1,200 Hispanic voters to gauge their opinions on important political issues.
The April 21-27 survey, which polled 1,200 Latino voters, indicates 93% of Hispanic voters “would be concerned if their taxes went up,” and 74% “say the amount of taxes they pay is too high.”
Notably, 39% say their taxes are “way too high.”
The issue is at play right now in Congress, where Republican leadership is working to pass a budget reconciliation bill that would extend and expand upon President Donald Trump’s first-term 2017 tax cuts before they expire at the end of the year.
When it comes to energy policy, Latino voters appear to align with the “drill, baby drill” energy approach favored by Trump, with 78% of respondents agreeing “America needs to produce more of its own gas and oil.”
The issue is surprisingly bipartisan, as 97% of Latino Republicans and 69% of Hispanic Democrats agree with the statement.
Additionally, 70% of Latino voters “said that our country needs to invest more in nuclear energy.”
When it comes to immigration and the border, the survey also found a desire among many Hispanics to bring control to the situation, with 85% of respondents agreeing that “our legal immigration system is broken.”
More specifically, the poll found “73% of Latino voters back doing what is necessary to control our southern border and stop the flow of illegal immigration into our country.”
On the issue of deportation, Hispanics appear to have mixed views of Trump’s approach, with 79% wanting “Trump to focus on deporting people who have committed serious crimes.”
Some 58% say that the “situation with illegal immigration/crossings is better than last year.”
All in all, 34% of Latino voters approve of Trump, and 66% disapprove. Among Latino Republicans, he sits at an 87% approval rating.
