I woke up this morning to see the smiling face of Gavin Newsom bragging about establishing a partnership with Nigeria to fight climate change.
Woohoo! The world is saved! Not only that, Newsom has proven his diplomatic chops by cutting a deal with a country that is so poor—and getting poorer—that the president even meeting the Governor of California must be seen as a diplomatic win.
Anything else going on in that country? Anything? https://t.co/9KjhD11g3y

Needless to say, of all the problems that need addressing in Nigeria, CO2 emissions do not top the list. Or even make the list, since its CO2 emissions per capita are de minimus, particularly when compared to California. Nigeria is responsible for approximately 0.3% of the world’s CO2 emissions.
So…whatever. Even if Nigeria weren’t currently in the middle of an F-ing genocide where Muslim terrorists are slaugtering Christians, the agreement amounts to nothing but a photo op.

But Nigeria IS in the middle of a multi-year genocide, and on top of that Gavin Newsom is bragging about and photographing himself with the leader of a country that in some regions of the country imposes the DEATH PENALTY for homosexuality.
How does that fit with California values, Gavin?
Federal Law Penalties
Same-sex sexual activity is criminalized across Nigeria, with penalties of up to 14 years in prison for acts labeled as “carnal knowledge against the order of nature” or “gross indecency” between same-sex partners.
The Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act (SSMPA) of 2014 bans same-sex marriage and civil unions, as well as “public show of same sex amorous relationship.” Violations can lead to up to 14 years in prison for marriage/cohabitation, and up to 10 years for public displays, participating in “gay clubs” or LGBT advocacy.
Assisting, witnessing, or supporting same-sex unions, or organizing gay club meetings, can also result in up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Sharia Law in Northern States
In 12 northern states that have adopted Sharia law, consensual same-sex acts can result in death by stoning, particularly for Muslims or those who accept Sharia court jurisdiction.
Lesser penalties include 100 lashes or other forms of corporal punishment, and imprisonment depending on the state and circumstances.
Recent cases have seen individuals sentenced to death by stoning or to lashes for offenses related to sexuality or gender expression.
Additional Risks
Laws are broadly and ambiguously worded, leading to arbitrary arrests, police harassment, blackmail, and violence from community members.
The climate has resulted in increased discrimination, extortion, and social isolation for LGBTQ+ Nigerians.
Next up? Perhaps Newsom should cut a deal on CO2 emissions with Iran!
Actually, it fits perfectly with Gavin Newsom’s priorities, which begin and end with pushing his own presidential ambitions, and doing a photo op with a foreign leader about whom nobody in California knows to make a nothing agreement that will do nothing to accomplish useless progressive goals is 100% on brand.
It’s performative, as is the entire “Climate Change” agenda and the COP 30 conference.
COP 30 and Prince William is on his soap box about the Amazon. So, a reminder…
they cut down 13 km of Amazon rainforest to build a road for COP30 & around 70% of the world’s balsa wood, used in “green” wind turbines, comes from, erm… the Amazon 🙄

They literally chopped down part of the Amazon rainforest to build a road for the conference, and just about every Western leader flew there on expensive and carbon-emitting private planes.
The climate cultists at COP 30 in Brazil are total hypocrites.
When they’re not fearmongering about climate change or whining about reliable energy, they’re cutting down 100,000 Amazon trees to make room for a four-lane highway for the “environment.”
Beyond parody. 🤡 pic.twitter.com/leP3mElCRz

No doubt Newsom will get credit for a wonderful accomplishment that will have the same impact on climate as building his high-speed rail project that has wasted billions of dollars and hasn’t laid a single piece of track after over a decade of hemorrhaging cash.
What he IS doing is legitimizing a country and greenwashing the mass slaughter of tens of thousands.
And what does that agreement consist of?
Governor Newsom also witnessed the signing of a new MOU between California and Nigeria focused on sustainable urban transportation, green ports, low-carbon transportation fuels, climate adaptation, methane detection and abatement policies, greenhouse gas emissions and air quality, and academic exchange and university partnerships. They also discussed Nigeria’s new presidential climate council and carbon market framework for technology and research development. The partnership was coordinated by California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin, who has worked with Nigerian partners to advance shared priorities in clean mobility and sustainable infrastructure. “California is honored to join hands with Nigeria — a powerhouse of trade, technology, and innovation — to build a cleaner, more connected future across continents. Guided by Governor Newsom’s bold climate and economic vision, this partnership reflects our shared commitment to sustainable growth, zero-emission transportation, and opportunity for the next generation,” said California Transportation Secretary Toks Omishakin.
Nigeria is a “powerhouse of trade, technology, and innovation.” Who knew? Not Nigerians, who are desperately poor and suffering from a GDP per capita that is falling from about 1/50th of California’s.
No doubt the transition to green energy and transportation will fix that right up. Ask Germany and the UK about how great greening the energy and transportation sectors has made their economies more vital.
