Navy Capt. Morgan Murphy is considering running for the Alabama Senate seat that Tommy Tuberville is vacating to run for governor.
The Daily Caller reported on Wednesday that Mr. Murphy, a White House staffer who previously served as a national security adviser to Mr. Tuberville, is giving the 2026 race a close look.
Two other Republicans, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Rep. Barry Moore, are also reportedly flirting with running.
Mr. Murphy now serves as senior adviser for public diplomacy to President Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine.
Before joining the second Trump administration, Mr. Murphy was a senior fellow at the MAGA-inspired America First Policy Institute and press secretary to acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller in the last months of the first Trump term.
Mr. Murphy is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. He has also written columns for The Daily Caller and The Washington Times.
Mr. Tuberville on Tuesday launched his campaign for governor.
He is seeking to replace Republican Gov. Kay Ivey, who is term-limited and can’t run again in 2026.
