After no players won the jackpot in Friday night’s drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot is up to $900 million ahead of the next drawing on Tuesday.
The winning numbers on Friday were white balls and the gold 16, 21, 23, 48 and 70, plus the gold “Mega Ball” 5, for a jackpot of $843 million.
If someone wins the $900 million prize in Friday’s drawing, it will be the eighth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history and the third one won since the lottery introduced a new prize structure on April 8. There has not been a Mega Millions winner since a ticket purchased in Virginia hit a $348 million jackpot on June 27.
If the $900 million jackpot is won, the winner will be able to choose between a lump sum of $415.3 million or a smaller immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, each one 5% larger than the last.
Mega Millions tickets, which saw their cost jump from $2 to $5 in April, are sold in 45 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. They are unavailable in Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.
