McDonald’s to close standalone ‘CosMc’s’ drink-focused stores

McDonald’s is planning to test out new drinks at its main restaurants, including some inspired by those at its standalone drink stores, CosMc’s. The remaining CosMc’s, however, are closing.

CosMc’s, its name and outer space theme taken from an old chain mascot from the 1980s and early 1990s, offered specialized drinks and limited, unique food options, including differently flavored hash browns and three varieties of filled doughnut holes.

“As part of this next testing phase, starting in late June, we will be closing all stand-alone pilot CosMc’s locations on a rolling basis and discontinuing the CosMc’s app,” McDonald’s said in a release Friday.

The fast food giant first opened several CosMc’s locations in 2023, with one flagship in Illinois and the others located in Texas. Earlier this year, McDonald’s closed the CosMc’s outlets that had been remodeled from larger standard McDonald’s locations.

There are currently five stores, one in Illinois and four remaining in Texas, according to CNN.

McDonald’s said it will use the customer feedback it got from operating CosMc’s to decide which new drinks will be added to the standard McDonald’s menu.
