The Maryland State Police arrested a man Saturday and charged him with driving impaired and striking a state trooper in Prince George’s County.
The trooper, whom state police did not publicly identify, was taken for treatment after other Maryland State Police personnel responded to the scene and has since been released.
At around 7 a.m., the trooper was parked in the right lane of Branch Avenue going southbound near Moores Road in Brandywine and was outside his patrol car, which had its hazard lights on.
The trooper was investigating a parked car in the right lane when a Ford F-150 hit his patrol car, which in turn hit him, the state police said.
Rayshaud Davon Shield, 32, of Upper Marlboro is accused of driving the truck and is charged with suspected impaired driving and other traffic violations, the state police said.
Mr. Shield is being held at the Prince George’s County Correctional Center, awaiting a meeting with a court official.
