Is Spanberger in the Running for Most Radical Leftist Governor? – HotAir

The voters of Virginia threw a temper tantrum last November.

There really is no other way to put it, guys. They acted like toddlers and will be paying the price for years.

The evidence is not that Abigail Spanberger was elected—she was portrayed as a moderate, if unconvincingly so—but rather the victory of Jay Jones.

(Unbeknownst to me, Beege was writing on Spanberger too, so read her post here.)

There were all sorts of indications that Spanberger was far more liberal than Pravda advertised, but there was no convincing voters with mere evidence that she was, and it was unlikely they cared when they decided to send a message to Bad Orange Man.

Well, the indications that Spanberger is no moderate turned out exactly as I expected. She has yet to cross into Tim Walz territory, but she has surpassed Gavin Newsom as one of the most radical governors in America, and she is just getting started.

Despite having run as a law-and-order moderate focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens, she has busily started setting up the state to become Illinois or Oregon, and with a dash of California for spice

Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger was sworn in just a few weeks ago, but the tornado of bad policy is already swirling around her state.

Spanberger’s very first order of business was reversing Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order 47, which had allowed for coordination between the Virginia State Police and the Department of Corrections and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. That coordination was important because it allowed the federal and state governments to cooperate to remove people in the country illegally who had committed additional crimes. That it was necessary for Spanberger to make it harder to deport criminals is a tell that her moderate campaign commercials will instead translate into a much further left administration.

Spanberger isn’t alone in moving Virginia sharply leftward. Both branches of the state legislature are now also controlled by Democrats, and they’re introducing policies that no one campaigned on. House Bill 863 would reduce minimum sentencing for rape, manslaughter and child pornography. If Spanberger ran on “let’s let rapists off easy,” the Virginia electorate somehow missed it. In fact, Spanberger’s campaign ads highlighted her law enforcement experience and that she’s a moderate who works with both sides of the political aisle.

She’s gone all-in on achieving every liberal’s fever dream, from raising taxes to the highest in the country to letting criminals get away with raping people. Especially if those criminals are transgendered furry illegal aliens with a taste for pedophilic pornography and fentanyl trafficking.

She is rearranging state finances to set public employees up for life, for good measure. After all, it was government employees who guaranteed her election.

The tsunami of bad ideas is, it appears, still building. After all, it takes time to draft legislation, to cross all those Ts and dot all those Is, but you can bet that by the end of this legislative session, there will be a bill to seize handguns from Republicans and put a bullet in their eye. Luckily, it will be defeated by one or two votes.

Just guessing on that one.

Then there’s House Bill 1442, which would prevent any enforcement of immigration law near polling locations. We’re told it’s very rare for illegal immigrants to vote in our elections and yet the Virginia legislature thinks a law like this is a high priority for the state. Why would immigration operations interfere with polling locations unless there are illegal immigrants voting at those polling locations?

Then there’s the chaos Democrats are wreaking at the Virginia Military Institute. VMI is a highly regarded military college with some notable alums, like Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine. The House of Delegates introduced a resolution to form a task force to decide whether the VMI should continue to get funding from the state. They’re also politicizing the board of the school.

The list of leftist initiatives keeps growing.

If you are in the wrong spot on the intersectional ladder, good luck to you. I hear West Virginia is a nice place to live if you don’t want to move to Texas or Florida.

I could go on, but what is the point? If you want to know what Spanberger wants to do, look to Minnesota for a preview.

Establishes the Home-Based Child Care Provider Start-Up Grants Pilot Program, whereby funds are provided to Child Care Aware of Virginia to work in conjunction with the public and private partners enumerated in the bill in order to expand the supply of licensed home-based child care providers in the Commonwealth, promote the safety of licensed home-based child care providers, and support access to child care for working parents in the Commonwealth, through providing for the award of grants to licensed and unlicensed home-based child care providers in the Commonwealth in accordance with the requirements of the bill.

Perhaps the idea of liberal states is to flood the zone with so much fraud in so many states that they can run out the clock of the Trump administration’s crackdown. After all, even if some of the fraud is caught and prosecuted, most will get through, and no politicians or bureaucrats will ever pay a price for enabling it.

Everybody wins, except the taxpayers. And citizens. And who cares about them?
