President Trump said he is “tremendously” honored to see a four-mile stretch of road near his Florida home named after him.
The portion of Southern Boulevard that runs between the airport in West Palm Beach and his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach was renamed “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard” on Friday.
“That’s a very important stretch,” Mr. Trump said at the dedication ceremony.
“When people see that the beautiful sign is all lit up nice at night, and it says Donald J. Trump Boulevard, they’ll be filled with pride,” the president said. “Just pride, not in me — pride in our country, pride in this state. Because our nation will be stronger, richer and more successful, which is what it is right now.”
Mr. Trump used the occasion to boast about the state of the country and his election victories in Florida, his adopted home after he made his name and fortune in New York.
Florida state Rep. Meg Weinberger, a Republican, pushed legislation to change the name of the road, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed it into law last year.
Palm Beach County commissioners voted to approve the change. They also decided to name another section of the boulevard after three Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies who died in motorcycle crashes — Luis Paez, Ralph Waller and Ignacio Diaz.
The name change will not impact official addresses or maps, but will result in new signage along the route.
Mr. Trump slapped his name on plenty of properties as a real estate mogul.
Now, he’s branding government programs in his likeness, including the “TrumpRX” website for discounted prescription drugs and Trump Accounts, which are new tax-advantaged savings accounts for children.
The State Department added the president’s name to the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, dubbing it the “Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace,” and workers recently added Mr. Trump’s name to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
