Donald Trump declares first 100 days ‘a revolution of common sense’

President Trump declared the first 100 days of his second term a “revolution of common sense” during a political rally in Michigan.

“What the world has witnessed in the past 14 weeks is a revolution of common sense. That’s all it is,” Mr. Trump told the friendly crowd. “You’re conservative, you’re liberal, whatever the hell you are – it’s about common sense when you think about it.”

The president described his border policies, push to lower interest rates, and return of education to the states as part of the “common sense” he said he’s restoring to Washington.

Mr. Trump delivered the speech to thousands of supporters at Macomb Community College in Warren, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. Before he spoke, two large electronic screens flashed “100 Days of Greatness,” “Jobs! Jobs! Jobs!” and “Buy American. Hire American.”

Michigan was one of the seven battleground states that Mr. Trump swept in the last election. However, the state has been affected by his tariffs, including one on new imported cars and auto parts.

Upon landing in Michigan, the White House released an executive order that scaled back automaker tariffs. It provides relief to automakers by giving them a break on certain imports of auto parts and components for the next two years.

Initially, Mr. Trump had ordered 25% tariffs on all imported autos, which began in April and another 25% on auto parts set to begin on May 3.

Michigan’s unemployment rate jumped to 5.5% in March, exceeding the national average of 4.2%.
