Don Lemon Tells White Men We Are Broken, Inviting Comment About Other Ethnic Groups… – HotAir

In general, I think it is more productive to focus on the behavior of individuals over that of various demographic groups, although I admit that some correlations between behavior and demographics might be worth noting.

My hope and expectation are that the correlation between various traits and behaviors is the result of cultural factors rather than genetics, but such correlations obviously exist. Somalis in Minnesota, for instance, are disproportionately involved in massive government fraud schemes, black men are disproportionately engaged in violent behavior, affluent white liberal females are the most likely people to support awful leftist social policies, and white men are disproportionately likely to be inventors, firefighters, doctors, and scientists.

Jews are notably among the most likely people to receive Nobel Prizes. My suspicion is that all of these correlations are rooted in differences between the cultural environments within which people grow up. One is much more likely to be a suicide bomber if one grows up in some cultures than others, obviously.

As a general rule, I think it is a fool’s errand to spend much time judging individuals based on group characteristics, since group identities tell you little of value about the nature of any particular individual. For instance, men are, on average, more physically capable than women, but just about any decent female athlete could kick my ass and outcompete me in anything. If I expected that my status as a male meant anything when comparing myself with a particular female, I would be rudely surprised to find myself outcompeted by any number of women.

Liberals don’t seem to think like that. They often resort to generalizations, which is a mistake for many reasons. It is a game that they should not dare to play.

I challenge him to visit some blocks in South Chicago or some of the sketchier parts of Chicago at night to interview people at night to get the opinions of the street denizens on a busy night to see what they think about that.

As a black man, Don Lemon should be more sensitive to that. He is a member of a demographic group that does not compare well with the one he chose to disparage when it comes to violence. He is confident that he can resort to accusations of racism to silence any white man from shoving his style of accusation back in his face, and in that, I have to say that his confidence is likely based on the unfortunate reality that Americans are unlikely to fight back against his slanders.

It is socially unacceptable to do so, and with reason. It is not a productive way to solve the violence problem we have in many communities.

I, for instance, would hesitate to ask people to look up relevant comparisons between crime rates, academic achievements, IQ, or other possible areas of contrast between various demographic groups that he and his liberal allies seem obsessed with. It might invite accusations of racism–an accusation I will happily hurl at him, given that he is inviting it by being racially obsessed.

I wonder if he really wants to go down that path. I haven’t spent much time slicing and dicing the population into racial groups and determining which racial groups are disproportionately involved in socially undesirable behaviors–that seems to be a path that would be unproductive in the extreme and only generate hate and division.

I decided to check on one statistic based on race and gender, and was shocked to find that the socially useful job of firefighter–you know, those people who run into skyscrapers when they are threatening to tumble down or into houses with children at risk of dying– and found that 96% are men and 82% are white. I wonder if Don Lemon would rather die than be saved by one of them. Or would he prefer to be found by this firefighter?

Yes, I know, Don, that white men suck.

I would be interested to know whether he and his leftist friends really would be happy if the tables were turned, assuming that we stuck to actual facts and didn’t have recourse to unearned accusations of prejudice and bad intentions. We could just compare statistics to statistics and avoid hurling insults.

Probably not.

Not having done all the nitty-gritty research that apparently Lemon has, perhaps he would be happy to go toe-to-toe in comparing the traits of racial groups. Apparently, he thinks white people as a class are provably dangerous compared to other racial groups. I would note that in some countries in Europe, they keep statistics on the racial distribution of rape statistics, and it isn’t the white men committing the vast majority of the rapes.

I believe that all of us should focus on creating a culture in which everyone can thrive and every individual can reach their full potential, contributing to a better society.

Lemon disagrees, it seems. He wants to slice and dice the population into better and worse racial and gender categories.

I suggest that if we play by his rules, he may not like the outcome of the argument. Worse people than me might be happy to argue with him on this point. I would prefer to find more productive ways to contribute to improving society.
