Congressman Mike Collins Will Announce Georgia Senate Bid

Rep. Mike Collins will soon announce a bid to unseat Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff in the 2026 U.S. Senate election in Georgia, per Fox News.

The son of former Rep. Mac Collins, R-Ga., Mike Collins has represented Georgia’s 8th Congressional District since 2023. Collins also owns and operates a large trucking business.

In the House, Collins has been an outspoken supporter of President Donald Trump and introduced the Laken Riley Act, which the president signed into law in January.

The legislation, named for a Georgia woman killed by an illegal immigrant in 2024, requires the Department of Homeland Security to detain noncitizens who have been arrested for violent crimes.

Collins recently teased a Senate run with an unsubtle video asking the question, “Who can beat Jon Ossoff?”

Fox reported Friday that Collins will announce a Senate campaign “early next week,” citing anonymous sources.

A May poll conducted by Cygnal showed Collins within striking distance of Sen. Ossoff, with the Democrat leading Collins 45.7% to 43.3%—well within the survey’s 3.41 percentage point margin of error.

The electoral field has recently narrowed for Republicans, perhaps increasing Collins’ chances in the primary.

Rep. Buddy Carter, R-Ga., is also seeking the Republican nomination, but potential candidates such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Gov. Brian Kemp have rejected calls to run in the race, and Georgia Insurance Commissioner John King has cancelled his bid.
