Bonnaroo music fest stops short due to thunderstorm

Organizers of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival canceled the rest of this week’s event in Manchester, Tennessee, due to heavy rain and lightning.

While the festival’s first day on Thursday went on as scheduled, performances were suspended at 1:08 p.m. Friday when lightning appeared, the Bonnaroo account said on X. Then the rest of the four-day fest was called off that evening.

“Today, the National Weather Service provided us with an updated forecast with significant and steady precipitation that will produce deteriorating camping and egress conditions in the coming days.  We are beyond gutted, but we must make the safest decision and cancel the remainder of Bonnaroo,” organizers wrote on the festival’s website and social media.

The evacuation of attendees began, with priority given to those with accessibility needs and people whose campsites at the festival had flooded.

People who bought one-day tickets and parking for Friday, Saturday or Sunday via Front Gate Tickets will be refunded, Bonnaroo organizers said. Those who got four-day admission and four-day camping via Front Gate Tickets or via the ticketing supplier FEVO will be reimbursed 75% of what they paid.

People who bought Bonnaroo tickets via TicketExchange will have to reach out to Ticketmaster to try and get a refund.
