Tuesday’s Final Word – HotAir

Droning the tabs

… “I have directed my attorneys to federally prosecute DeCarlos Brown Jr, a repeat vioIent offender with a history of vioIent crime, for murder…”

“We will seek the MAXIMUM penalty for this unforgivable act of vioIence — he will NEVER again see the light of day as a free man.”

Ed: Consider the speed in which Trump worked on this case. Sunday evening, he’d only just heard about it from reporters on the tarmac. Forty-eight hours later, his DoJ seized control of the case in order to make sure the murderer end up where he belongs, permanently.

===

NY Post: The deranged homeless man charged with butchering a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee on a Charlotte train was free on cashless bail after a magistrate released him with just a “written promise” to show up for court — despite a nearly two-decade history of violence and mental illness.

Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, was arrested at least 14 times in North Carolina for crimes ranging from assault and firearms possession to felony robbery and larceny dating back to 2007.

His own mother told local TV station WSOC that her son was schizophrenic and should never have been allowed to roam the streets.

Ed: I don’t think that will be a problem any longer for Brown. Pam Bondi will make sure of that. The question will be how many more people will get killed by the crazies set loose by acfivist judges and progressive prosecutors, and not just in Charlotte.

===

Ed: That’s a good start, but accountability doesn’t end there. Every public official that pushed cashless bail, every prosecutor who let this perp walk out of jail, every activist who encouraged sacrificing peaceful citizens to walking garbage like Brown need to be held accountable as well.

===

Newsweek: Judge Teresa Stokes has attracted scrutiny on social media after it emerged that she presided over a previous case involving DeCarlos Brown Jr. months before he was accused of murdering a Ukrainian refugee. …

Records show that Brown has been arrested 14 times in over a decade and was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

He has previously been convicted of felony larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats, leading to a six-year prison sentence in 2015 for incidents dating to 2013 and 2014. He was released in 2020; then, months later, he was charged with assaulting his sister.

Ed: Does North Carolina have a three-strikes law? If so, why was Brown not prosecuted under it? And who made those decisions?

===

Ed: The truth they are not telling you is that progressives have a fetish for criminals and violent offenders, and are more than happy to sacrifice law-abiding citizens to satisfy it. The media, run by the same strain of progressives, have no trouble ignoring stories that expose this fetish, and once they get out, to make them about Republicans “pouncing” instead of criminals running amok in the streets and on public transportation.

===

BBC: The bustling city of Charlotte receives millions of dollars in federal transport funding – about $50m (£37m) in 2023 – covering roughly 12% of its transit operating budget and more than half of its capital costs, according to the Federal Transit Administration.

“I can’t pull money today from their transit system, I actually have to do an investigation, that’s what the law requires,” Duffy told Fox News. “I guarantee all your viewers that if I find what I think I’m going to find, they are not going to have your public tax dollars going to their public transportation system. Zero, none, nada.”

Ed: Good. That’s another step toward accountability. Make them pay, literally, and force them to enforce the law.

===

Ed: The full video is making the rounds on social media. It’s horrifying, but this image is the most haunting. America failed her, and we have to make changes to do better. NOW.

===

Axios: The big picture: Zarutska’s death raises questions about the effectiveness of the judicial system and the community’s failures to address mental health. Even Brown’s mother has blamed the courts for allowing her son to be out in the community.

Another recent example in August is when CMPD got into a shootout with a man described as “acting erratically.” The family had tried to get an involuntary commitment for the man the day before, but a Mecklenburg County magistrate denied the request, according to police.

Ed: Who appointed this magistrate judge? Who appointed Stokes?

===

…  I will always fight for JUSTICE, and never give up. HAMAS, RELEASE THE HOSTAGES, NOW!”

Ed: It’s amazing what happens when you set red lines, and then back them up with action. Speaking of which …

===

NRO’s Jim GeraghtyTrump said on Truth Social, “The Israelis have accepted my Terms. It is time for Hamas to accept as well. I have warned Hamas about the consequences of not accepting. This is my last warning, there will not be another one.”

Apparently, Trump meant it this time. After months where the Hamas negotiating position kept shifting from obstinacy to implausible counteroffers and being all over the map, the Hamas negotiators are now . . . well, they’re now all over the map themselves. It was an Israeli operation, but the U.S. was notified of the attack beforehand.

This was a bad time for Hamas leaders to attempt the “TACO trade.” Trump does not always chicken out.

Ed: It didn’t occur to me until Jim pointed it out that it’s Taco Tuesday.

===

Donald Trump on Truth Social: This morning, the Trump Administration was notified by the United States Military that Israel was attacking Hamas which, very unfortunately, was located in a section of Doha, the Capital of Qatar. This was a decision made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, it was not a decision made by me. Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a Sovereign Nation and close Ally of the United States, that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker Peace, does not advance Israel or America’s goals.

However, eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the misery of those living in Gaza, is a worthy goal. I immediately directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform the Qataris of the impending attack, which he did, however, unfortunately, too late to stop the attack. I view Qatar as a strong Ally and friend of the U.S., and feel very badly about the location of the attack. I want ALL of the Hostages, and bodies of the dead, released, and this War to END, NOW!

I also spoke to Prime Minister Netanyahu after the attack. The Prime Minister told me that he wants to make Peace. I believe this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for PEACE. I also spoke to the Emir and Prime Minister of Qatar, and thanked them for their support and friendship to our Country. I assured them that such a thing will not happen again on their soil. I have directed Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to finalize the Defense Cooperation Agreement with Qatar. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Ed: I suspect that this is not the entire story, but it’s the one that works for all parties. “Gee, we were too late” is pretty convenient. What this *sounds* like is that the US traded some closer security cooperation in exchange for letting Israel take out Hamas’ leadership clique in Doha. However, this could also be on the level. YMMV. I’m fine with it either way.

Ed: Now THIS is a conspiracy theory I can embrace!
