Gunman Targeting State Lawmakers Kills Former Minnesota House Speaker – PJ Media

In what appears to be one of the most brazen and disturbing political attacks in recent memory, Democratic House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were gunned down in their home early Saturday morning in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Governor Tim Walz wasted no time calling it a “politically motivated assassination.”

State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were also shot multiple times in a separate but seemingly coordinated attack at their Champlin home. Both underwent surgery, and according to Walz, there’s “cautious optimism” about their survival. Still, two homes, two couples, targeted in the middle of the night—it’s hard not to connect the dots.

Walz, visibly shaken, called Hortman “a formidable public servant” and “a giant in Minnesota.” He added, “She is irreplaceable and will be missed by so many.” All fair tributes—but while the left mourns, the public is asking: how did something like this happen? And why?

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the FBI is involved, saying, “This horrific violence will not be tolerated and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

President Trump has also issued a statement.

“I have been briefed on the terrible shooting that took place in Minnesota, which appears to be a targeted attack against State Lawmakers,” Trump said. “Our Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and the FBI, are investigating the situation, and they will be prosecuting anyone involved to the fullest extent of the law. Such horrific violence will not be tolerated in the United States of America.”

The shooter first struck around 2 a.m. at Senator Hoffman’s residence, leaving him and an unidentified woman with multiple gunshot wounds. From there, the killer made his way to Hortman’s home, where both she and her husband were fatally shot.

This shocking act of political violence comes as tensions in America continue to spiral, thanks to nonstop left-wing hysteria, radicalized rhetoric, and a government that’s increasingly incapable—or unwilling—to protect elected officials. It just so happens that on the very same day, the so-called “No Kings” protests are set to take place across the country. The rally planned for Minneapolis has reportedly been canceled.

A manifesto reportedly recovered from the gunman’s stolen police vehicle lists multiple political figures—Democrats and Republicans alike.

“I am horrified by the evil attack that took place overnight, and heartbroken beyond words by the loss of Speaker-Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark,” GOP Rep. Lisa Demuth, who succeeded Hortman as House speaker said in a statement. “With the law enforcement response ongoing and details still emerging, I will simply ask all Minnesotans to please lift up in prayer the victims of this horrific attack, as well as the law enforcement personnel still working to apprehend the perpetrator.”
