President Trump said his travel plans could change Friday because he keeps getting calls asking him to make an appearance.
Mr. Trump has been in the Middle East since Monday, making stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
“We will be leaving tomorrow, as you know. Almost destination unknown, because we are getting calls, could you be here, could you be there,” he said.
“But probably going back to Washington, D.C., tomorrow,” he said.
He called the trip “amazing.”
“I don’t think there’s been anything like it,” he said.
Mr. Trump previously said he would fly to Turkey to participate in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks if something happened that warranted his appearance.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy landed in Turkey for the talks, but Russian President Vladimir Putin said he wasn’t going.
Mr. Trump said Thursday that no progress would be made in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks until he meets personally with Mr. Putin.
“Look, nothing is gonna happen until Putin and I get together, OK?” the president told reporters on Air Force One before landing in the United Arab Emirates. “And obviously he wasn’t going to go. … He wasn’t going if I wasn’t there.”
He added, “I don’t believe anything’s going to happen, whether you like it or not, until he and I get together. But we’re going to have to get it solved because too many people are dying.”
Mr. Zelenskyy said Russia’s representation at the talks “appears theatrical.”
He posted on social media, “We will have several hours for an important discussion and very important decisions. It is essential to understand the level of the Russian delegation, what mandate they hold and whether they are authorized to make any decisions at all — because we all know who actually makes decisions in Russia.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Mr. Putin had no plans to meet with Mr. Trump, Tass reported.
