Donald Trump’s been talking about a Cuban takeover “soon” for a couple of months now. This week, while appearing on Hannity on Fox News, Marco Rubio suggested that we’ll “have more news [on Cuba] fairly soon.”

I think prioritizing Cuba is sort of on hold until we’re finished up in Iran, but the MSM is doing its best to keep it in the headlines in the worst of ways. The goal is, as always, to make Trump, Rubio, and the United States look stupid, while making the regime look stoic and ready to progress, as if after nearly 70 years, it has seen the light. It has not. The leftists in the U.S. have some sort of gross desire to romanticize this island hellhole. .
This week, I’ve noted three particular stories that should come with a little caveat but usually don’t. So, let’s take a closer look at them.
2,010 Prisoners
I’ll start with the most recent: On Thursday night, the Cuban regime announced that it would release 2,010 prisoners as a humanitarian gesture for Holy Week.
“This humanitarian and sovereign gesture stemmed from a careful analysis of the characteristics of the acts committed by those sanctioned, the good conduct maintained in prison, having extinguished a significant part of their sanction and their state of health,” the regime announced. “That is why the total number of those released includes young people, women, adults over 60 years of age, those who reach the end of early release in the last six months and next year; as well as foreigners and Cuban citizens residing abroad.”
No other details were provided, but it’s likely this is just theater to garner sympathy and buy time. It’s not the first time the regime has done it, but with any luck, it will be the last.
We’ve seen this before.
The regime releases a few for headlines while hiding the truth and keeping political prisoners behind bars.
Let’s be clear: we don’t even know who is being released, because the dictatorship lies.
You know what they won’t do? Release Maykel Osorbo,… https://t.co/Vc5O8skj3V

If you’ll recall, just last month, the regime announced that it was going to release 51 prisoners as some sort of favor to the Vatican, but according to the human rights group Observatorio Cubano de Derechos Humanos, only 27 of those released were actual political prisoners.
As Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) said above, “The regime releases a few for headlines while hiding the truth and keeping political prisoners behind bars.”
The fact is that it’s estimated that the regime has over 1,200 political prisoners locked away, including minors and senior citizens. If this was true reform, those people would be free ASAP and granted amnesty. It’s the equivalent of giving someone $20 while you’re stealing a $100 out of their pocket.
We’ll see what happens, but expectations are low. I’m writing this almost 24 hours after the announcement was made, and so far, all we’ve seen are carefully curated videos of newly released prisoners embracing their family members —no details on who they are or why they were in prison in the first place. I’d love to ultimately be proven wrong, but I remain skeptical.
Castro Kids
You may or may not have noticed that several members of the Castro family are suddenly coming out of the woodwork to do MSM interviews, mostly kids and grandkids of Fidel and Raúl. One of the most notable is Fidel’s 33-year-old grandson Sandro Castro, who comes across as a spoiled, obnoxious playboy type, who criticizes his family while living it up on the money they stole from the Cuban people.
He owns a nightclub in Havana, considers himself an influencer, and has a growing social media following. His Instagram videos show him acting pretty bizarre — in the video I clicked on, he was humping a tree and in another he’s having a meeting with a fake Trump — and/or showing off luxury cars, yacht parties, and all the things the Castro children and grandchildren seem to enjoy.
CNN interviewed him recently and he told the outlet that he’s a capitalist and that many people in Cuba are too. CNN took this and ran with it as some kind of proof that the Castro family isn’t all bad. Look at this guy here wearing his Nikes and casually drinking a beer while he criticizes his grandfather’s ideology… he’s just like us!

Let’s just say this isn’t going over too well with Cuban exiles. As far as most of them are concerned, any member of the Castro family has lost the right to speak on behalf of the Cuban people, especially if they’re living a sweet life on the family dime. For what it’s worth, Sandro claims that his last name earns him zero privileges. Sure, Jan.
EU Humanitarian ‘Aid’
Last but not least, the European Union announced this week that it’s sending about $2.3 million USD worth of humanitarian aid to Cuba. “This funding will contribute to provide logistics support to humanitarian partners delivering urgent relief to the most vulnerable, due to the current energy crisis and related difficulties on the distribution of food and drinking water,” the European Commission said.
On the surface, it sounds like a kind gesture, and the MSM is treating it as such, but as with any aid to Cuba that doesn’t go through channels like the Catholic Church, it will only end up propping up the regime. The money is for “logistics support,” but guess who controls most of the logistics on the island? Trucks, fuel, warehouses, distribution — the regime will handle it first. And some of it may very well end up helping the Cuban people, but all it does is provide some temporary relief to problems caused by the regime’s permanent policies.
Of course, this is also a big “screw you” to Trump, Rubio, and the United States, as well, but that should come as no surprise. We’ve seen a lot of that out of Europe lately.
🚨The EU Commission is providing a lifeline to the regime in #Cuba which actively assists Russia in its illegal, horrific invasion of #Ukraine.
This is counterproductive & devastating to US-EU cooperation.
In the US Congress, we condemn any aid to the Cuban regime! https://t.co/JaijtcWJAA

If you’ll recall, Mexico’s Narco-President Claudia Sheinbaum sent tons of aid to Cuba last month, only for much of it to end up sold in military stores that only accept the U.S. dollar.
Europe can send money until it’s broke. The Castro family can cosplay capitalism until they die. The regime can release every prisoner in its prisons. But none of that will fix what’s wrong in Cuba, and everyone who supports any of this is just doing a disservice to the Cuban people.
As Rubio said, “They don’t have an economic model. They don’t have an economy… and sadly, the people in charge of the apparatus and government there are both incompetent and unable to solve these problems. Cuba is in need of two things: economic reform and political reform.”
That’s the only way the island will ever see real change.
