Singer Bruce Springsteen said last week that his latest music tour will be extremely political, and he isn’t concerned about fan backlash due to his beliefs.
“The tour is going to be political and very topical about what’s going on in the country,” Springsteen told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “Minneapolis and St. Paul, that was the place I wanted to begin it, and I wanted to end it in Washington.”
When asked how he handles fan blowback from political messaging, he replied, “I don’t worry about it. My job is very simple: I do what I want to do, I say what I want to say, and then people get to say what they want to say about it.”
Springsteen added, “Those are the rules of my game. That’s fine with me. I don’t worry about if you’re going to lose this part of your audience. I’ve always had a feeling about the position we play culturally, and I’m still deeply committed to that idea of the band. The blowback is just part of it. I’m ready for all that.”
The singer, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump, appeared at a “No Kings” rally Saturday and performed his song, “Streets of Minneapolis,” targeting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, referring to them as “King Trump’s private army,” according to USA Today.
“This past winter, federal troops brought death and terror to the streets of Minneapolis. Well, they picked the wrong city,” the New Jersey-born singer said while on stage. “The power and the solidarity of the people of Minneapolis, of Minnesota, was an inspiration to the entire country.”
He added, “Your strength and your commitment told us that this is still America. This reactionary nightmare and these invasions of American cities will not stand.”
Springsteen and President Donald Trump have feuded in the past.
In response to Springsteen’s song, released back in January, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter.
“The Trump administration is focused on encouraging state and local Democrats to work with federal law enforcement officers on removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens from their communities — not random songs with irrelevant opinions and inaccurate information,” she declared. “The media should cover how Democrats have refused to work with the administration, and instead, opted to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegals.”
In early 2025, Variety reported that Trump called Springsteen “dumb as a rock” and referred to him as a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker.”
