Wanted fugitive shot by Dallas police reportedly worked on Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s security detail

A Texas man shot and killed during a standoff with Dallas police earlier this week reportedly worked as a security guard for Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

The man, known by several aliases including Mike King, was running Off Duty Police Services, an online service that placed North Texas officers in off‑duty jobs, CBS News Texas reported.

He also reportedly drove a replica undercover police car using license plates stolen from cars outside a military recruiting office.

Mr. King was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer, having claimed to be one while recruiting for his business. Authorities have not released his real name pending the ongoing investigation.

The wanted fugitive’s alleged criminal history raises questions about how he juggled a double life while serving a security detail for a sitting member of Congress.

Dallas police officers said Mr. King barricaded himself inside a vehicle in the parking garage at Children’s Medical Center Dallas around 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, officials said at a Thursday press conference. He was forced out by tear gas and was killed after a standoff with Dallas police officers, which included a fugitive team, after pulling a gun on law enforcement.

No officers or bystanders were injured, and the hospital briefly went on lockdown.

Ms. Crockett, a Texas Democrat, had paid “Mike King” for “security services” as recently as last year, CBS News Texas reported, while he worked on her security team in both Washington, D.C., and Texas. He frequently stood in close proximity to the congresswoman on her campaign trail for a U.S. Senate seat, including when Ms. Crockett participated in campaign events while running for the Democratic Senate primary nomination before losing to candidate James Talarico.

He also reportedly oversaw teams of security officers at several downtown Dallas hotels and at his church.
