Trump says he’ll attend White House Correspondents dinner, ending boycott

President Trump said Monday that he will attend this year’s White House Correspondents Association Dinner, marking the first time he will do so as president.

The dinner, which celebrates journalists who cover the White House, including those at The Washington Times, is scheduled for April 25th.

“In honor of our Nation’s 250th Birthday, and the fact that these ‘Correspondents’ now admit that I am truly one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country, the G.O.A.T., according to many, it will be my honor to accept their invitation and make it the greatest, hottest and most spectacular dinner of any kind, ever!” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The president says he’s boycotted previous dinners because “the press was extraordinarily bad to me, fake news all, right from the beginning of my first term.”

Mr. Trump snubbed the event for his entire first term and last year, the first of his second term.

Last week, the White House Correspondents’ Association announced it would again ditch its tradition of having a comedian perform at the high-profile dinner. Instead, it tapped mentalist Oz Pearlman to be the entertainment at the event.

The association had tapped comedian Amber Ruffin to perform at last year’s dinner. However, it abruptly canceled her appearance, saying it should not be focused on “the politics of division.”
