Trump calls Savannah Guthrie as the search continues for her abducted mom

President Trump called NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday to express concern as the search intensifies for her 84-year-old mother, who authorities say was forcibly taken from her Tucson home over the weekend.

A White House official confirmed that the call took place on Wednesday afternoon and Mr. Trump spoke to Ms. Guthrie, but did not provide additional details.

Ms. Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was last seen Saturday night. The search entered its fourth day Wednesday.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said he remains hopeful that Nancy Guthrie is still alive.

Speaking with reporters on Tuesday, Mr. Trump offered additional federal support to aid the search for the elderly woman.

“I think it’s a terrible thing. I always got along very good with Savannah. Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out,” Mr. Trump said in the Oval Office.

Mr. Trump called the case “a very strange disappearance.”

Although Mr. Trump said he got along with Ms. Guthrie, the two famously sparred during the 2020 election when she moderated a town hall with him. At one point, Ms. Guthrie accused him of lying about Osama bin Laden’s death and, later, compared him to “someone’s crazy uncle.”

As the search continues, Ms. Guthrie on Wednesday asked for prayers in support.

“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” she wrote on Instagram.
