‘Melania’ Opens Tomorrow – HotAir

The First Lady’s documentary opens in theaters tomorrow.

I think it’s kind of a cool idea, and for a First Lady of the United States who has arguably been one of the most gracious and hands down the most gorgeous, she has been woefully treated by what would normally be a slobbering fashion press.

I am delighted she has her moment.

You could have predicted without any effort at all the lengths the Left would go to in order to trash the film before a single minute of it had been seen in theaters.

In early releases, it seems as if they’re having a good time taking pictures of empty venues, and the national media is doing their best to sniff as loudly and disdainfully as they can.

Don’t worry, boys – we see you.

Melania Trump’s documentary, “Melania: Twenty Days to History,” is getting a lavish Washington, D.C., premiere at the Kennedy Center on Thursday before rolling out on more than 1,500 screens in the U.S. and Canada this weekend.

The film, which follows her life in the run-up to last year’s inauguration, has few precedents. As a movie, it is one of the few political documentaries to receive a wide release. As a political object, it’s the first time a sitting first lady has had her life featured in what is ostensibly a film backed by the White House. And as a pop-culture curiosity, it has already become a totem for the Trump administration’s pursuit of an aggressive media strategy that has at times been backed by powerful figures in entertainment and tech.

“This movie is a wild card,” said Daniel Loria, senior vice president at the Boxoffice Company, a theatrical e-commerce and data services firm. “Movies like this haven’t gotten a lot of theatrical releases.”

…But her big-screen moment is already being met with a mixed response.

Online, reviewers on Letterboxd trashed the film (before seeing it), while others have shared screenshots of theaters full of unsold tickets in cities across the U.S. to make a case for the film’s lack of popularity. Meanwhile, box office experts say the film could launch in the $5 million range, making it a relatively solid opening by documentary standards.





Oh, so wait – it could actually do well by documentary standards?

Thank you for saving that nugget for the end. All of us had it confused with ‘Return of the King.’

Even the class acts at CNN had a grand old time ripping on something none of them had yet seen.

CNN anchor Erin Burnett and data reporter Harry Enten dumped all over the Amazon MGM Studios bio-doc about First Lady Melania Trump, predicting that even President Donald Trump couldn’t buy enough tickets to make Melania a hit.

The Brett Ratner-directed documentary was screened at the White House, and is set to open this weekend with a $40 million production budget and $35 million promo pricetag to recoup.

On Tuesday night’s edition of CNN’s OutFront, Enten and Burnett agreed that signs don’t point to a strong showing — “even if Trump or somebody goes in and buys a whole lot of tickets”

The film has also had the teensiest bit of sabotage as far as its advertising has gone – like Los Angeles Metro buses that billboards were paid for but no one ever saw on the side of their buses.

How curious is that?

So curious someone asked, ‘Where are the Melania buses, dudes?’

To their credit, Metro responded. To their detriment, they went with two different takes.

…”Why yes, we did this unethical/illegal thing, but we did it solely to protect the children/the public/the client!”

My source *inside* the agency told me the purpose was political—to make @AmazonMGMStudio think the movie isn’t popular. 

Add to that the fears regular citizens have about their security from the unhinged left and there is likelihood that we are, once again, pawns on a chessboard. 

One question—was marketing for @MichelleObama’s books and podcasts throttled like this?

It’s a Trump, so not delivering the advertising that film distributor Amazon paid for is a stunning and brave act of resistance, right?

Right?

Melania Trump has been treated abominably.

She was once again her gorgeous, gracious self, ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange the other morning.





Even as Melania mourned the passing of one of the few designers who had been a true friend through the years, Valentino Garavani.

She took time to explain the concept behind the documentary to Aynsley Earhardt.

And The Five ferociously questioned her about ‘THE YMCA.

Look how much fun she has answering.

I think she’s fabulous.

And I think we’re so damn lucky.

Just checked and it is playing around here. I also don’t have to worry too much, like some of you who might want to go and do seriously have to think about it.





…I would like to see it, but I don’t trust how psycho lefties are.  I’ll be waiting for it to come out on a streaming platform.

Yeah, sadly, they’re out there.
