Seditious Mark Kelly Slams Trump as UnAmerican – HotAir

What an idiot I am.

I really expected better of Mark Kelly, who has served our country bravely and well in his years of military service and as an astronaut. His wife, Gabby Giffords, was a decent Congresswoman for a Democrat, too, and paid a steep price for being in the public eye.

Kelly retired as a Captain in the Navy, flew 39 missions in the Gulf War, and was, famously, an astronaut. All respect to him and his service.

That is why I expected much better of him, to be honest. But, as Mark Milley showed, serving in the military and achieving a high rank is no guarantee that one maintains integrity. The higher up one goes, the more political the job, and now that he is a US Senator Kelly has abandoned his commitment to Duty, Honor, and Country, as is actively participating in what amounts to a color revolution.

Worst of all, Kelly is using his service as a weapon in his political battles with Donald Trump. One is not supposed to serve in the military to score political points, but to defend the civilians whom you have sworn to protect, and the Constitutional order that placed such great trust in you. Kelly is doing the opposite here, trying to use the fact that he and his family served in the military to assert that he is better qualified than the American voters.

The Democrats have decided to appeal to the military to essentially perform a soft, or perhaps not-so-soft coup.

First, there was the infamous “Seditious Six” video, in which Kelly was a star performer. Then there was the “double-tap” hoax, to provide a false illegal order, and to put a cherry on top Senator Mark Warner explicitly suggested that the military save the country from Trump.

Kelly knows better than most—he was, after all, a Captain in the Navy and is a sitting US Senator—that the bedrock principle that provides legitimacy to the great power the military wields is that civilians control it. That is not just an ingrained norm, but a legal requirement for service, and the key to the oath he took.

He is also, as of now, still subject to the UCMJ, which means that he likely broke the law by encouraging service members to disobey orders. Soldiers have it pounded into them that they must not obey clearly illegal orders, and the whole point of the Seditious Six video and the subsequent Double Tap Hoax was to create a pretext for disobedience.

It was a PsyOp—laying the groundwork for a color revolution, and a common tactic used by Elissa Slotkin’s CIA to topple foreign governments.

Kelly is staying in character. I have to give him that. But that character is a villain in a bad movie from the 1950s about a conspiracy to commit a coup. Apparently, he saw Mark Milley’s traitorous action of pledging to protect the Chinese Communist Party and thought it looked good.

Shame on him.
